News Scripts
News scripts allow you to update the news on your site from the Web, as well as create extra logins for other people. There used to be only a couple of ones worth using, but we're spoiled for choice now.
Coranto
Coranto is no longer officially in development, and the link is the unofficial site, but don't let that fool you. In my opinion, Coranto is the only thing for updating news. It runs on Perl and CGI, which pretty much any host supports.. The only ad-type thing is a "Powered by Coranto" link at the bottom of the page(s) you use it on, and there is a choice to disable this.
CuteNews
CuteNews runs using PHP and a flatfile database, and has some really nice features. You'll definitely want to customise the templates after installation, though. If you want a PHP-powered solution (and why wouldn't you?), I'd tip this one over Fusion.
Fusion News
Like CuteNews, Fusion runs on PHP and a flatfile database. It's certainly pretty, but in terms of features I'd recommend Cute over it.
OxyScripts
This is the service to use if your host doesn't let you use scripting, or if you don't want to learn how to install a script. It adds a line saying it's powered by OxyScripts and an ad line at the bottom of the page. The good thing about OxyScripts is the ease of use. If you can't handle CGI or Perl, it's all done for you. It runs on PHP - faster than CGI - and it is remotely hosted on the OxyScripts site. You don't need to know anything about programming, CGI or FTP. You just have to put a provided line of code in your page and that calls the news page from the OxyScripts server.
